Images from Odeo, Salon, LA TimesThere is so much to talk about that I do not even know where to begin!
I guess I can start with the that whole swine flu epidemic, Arlen Specters switch from the GOP to the democrats, or maybe throw in a little of Obama's first 100 days.
The swine flu epidemic is getting pretty scary, the state of California has just been declared in a state of emergency by Governor Schwarzenegger. According to the LA Times President Obama is seeking 1.5 Billion dollars to fight against the swine flu. 13 cases of the flu have been confirmed in California alone, with more cases popping up all around the country. The whole world seems to be in panic as new cases of the swine flu are making headlines in France, Spain, Israel, New Zealand, and Korea. (Just to name a few)
Another big story today is Pennsylvania Senator Arlen's Specters defection from the Republican party to the Democrats. With this change the Democrats now have 59 seats in the upper chamber (talk about majority) and will likely become a filibuster-proof majority in the senate. At a Capitol news conference Specter told reporters, "the party has moved far to the right" and "I have found myself increasingly with odds with the Republican philosophy."Moderate Republican Senator Olympia Snowe has called the defection devastating to the party while others have said good riddance like Mitch McConnell and good ole Rush Limbaugh.
The President's 100 days are almost up and in my last couple of posts for this class I will be talking about what he has done or not done in his first 100 days to wrap up this semester.
